What Age Should Kids See the Dentist?

My Rivertown Dentist in Madison

At My Rivertown Dentist, there’s no hiding or denying how much we love kids and pediatric dentistry. It’s gratifying to watch a little one grow up, loving their smile and feeling confident in all they do — all thanks to you, the intelligent parent!

Parents are just as important to us as our littlest patients, and we want you to leave the office smiling wide because you know you’re doing dentistry right for your family. (Wait until you see how easy it is to schedule family dental appointments, so everyone is taken care of same-day for unbeatable convenience.)

But knowing when to bring your baby or toddler to see Dr. Ashley Lee and Dr. Sarah G. Hasewinkle can be confusing. Let us help!

The Age-Old Debate

One of the most common questions dentists get asked by new parents is at what age they should start bringing their kids for checkups or cleanings. At My Rivertown Dentist, we start seeing kids at our Madison dental office as early as their first birthday. Generally, after their first tooth pokes through, we want to see them too.

It’s amazing how little ones love to explore the office’s sounds, sights, and smells. Even before they sit in the seat, we encourage kids to visit appointments with their parents or siblings to become familiar with our faces. This gets them more used to things before they ever need treatment. Dentistry feels safer for everyone!

What the Experts Recommend

The American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry suggest that a first dental visit should occur no later than a first birthday. Just like how we feel at My Rivertown Dentist. By getting them in the dental chair early, you’re protecting them from damage and cavities. You’re also setting them up for a lifetime of success at the dentist because they will have positive experiences where they always feel comfortable. We go out of our way to cater to our littlest patients with specialized treatments for airway health, snoring, and more.

Under the expert guidance of Dr. Ashley Lee, she can show you new ways of helping your family get healthy through unique partnerships with The Institute for Craniofacial Medicine and Vivos Therapeutics. She also relies on SMART treatment for children’s cavities that are minimally invasive, without drilling or the need for anesthesia.

We’re happy to speak with you about scheduling your appointment today! Please let us know what days and times work best for you. Together, My Rivertown Dentist will create a plan that works best for everyone.
